During Winter whales and killer whales gather in the Norwegian sea to feed. It is a spectacular show. The orcas, the biggest of the dolphins, are social and playful so this sea safari ... morewill be an exciting experience.
Living in a matriarchal society, it is very common to meet killer whales in big groups; males, females and calves together traveling, feeding, resting or socialising. Socialising is ... morea moment of joy and happiness and you will be the spectator of one the most interesting and joyful moment of these creatures’ life.
Being the norwegian sea biologically very productive, it is the perfect winter feeding ground for many other whales as well. The Humpback whales are very common in these waters in wintertime. Huge and social, it is a real pleasure to encount them while swimming. Big cetaceans need deep waters to dive and killer whales feed mostly on herring. That is the two reasons why both can be observed in Andenes, Vesterålen archipelago.

Where do we go?
Andenes is about 200 kilometres north of Svolvær and it takes about 3 hours by car and ferry to reach it one way.
We can consider this transport a good and unique opportunity to get a general idea of an another area further north. The guide will give you all the information and, if possible, we will try to do our best to take some unexpected pictures.

We organize the safari by RIB boat (rigid inflatable boat, 12 seats). It is s an “Arctic Experience” you will never forget.

Lofoten, Norway
There are approximately 75 species of whales in Norway, where they are a part of the marine ecosystem of the North Sea. They either eat fish, or they compete with fish for their food. ... moreMost whales need to eat the equivalent of approximately five per cent of their body weight every day. They are beautiful and gentle giants.
The North Sea is a very rich food source. Here whales can feed all year round; these waters are the perfect habitat for many types of cetaceans such as sperm whales, humpback whales, ... morepilot whales, minke whales, fin whales and killer whales.

In summer time the Norwegian sea is populated mostly by sperm whales. They spend the summer in the cold Atlantic waters before starting their migration towards warmer waters again in the autumn.

The whales are gentle marine mammals and observing them is a moment of joy and beauty. The Sperm whales are huge mammals and they need deep waters to dive.

Where do we go?
To observe these fantastic creatures, we have to transfer to Andenes in the Vesterålen Islands.
Andenes is about 200 kilometres from Svolvær and it is the best place to spot and admire these gigantic, but gentle creatures.
It takes about 3 hours to reach Andenes from Svolvær. This is good opportunity to drive all along this small archipelago called Vesterålen.
We like to define this excursion as a fantastic and complete experience. You will experience a new archipelago and its amazing landscape and the joy of seeing the whales in their own environment.

Want to experience the amazing, graceful and beautiful wild dolphins? The most popular dolphin spotting location in Zanzibar is in Kizimkazi on the Southern coast, where you can see ... moreboth bottle-nose and humpback dolphins. Several bottle-nose dolphins stay there all year-round. Kizimkazi is also the site of a 12th century mosque, the earliest evidence of Islam in East Africa.

Dolphin tour is best very early in the morning, because in the afternoon as the sun rises sea water tends to become warm, therefore dolphins dive deep down the sea bottom to escape heat. We advise to wear waterproof sandals for boarding the dhows and to bring sunscreen, towel and spare T–shirt for snorkeling. Although dolphin-spotting is a popular activity, sightings aren’t guaranteed 100%, and actually managing to swim with dolphins is a rare occurrence, like with other wild animals. Once spotted, we’ll cruise with the dolphins and get the swimmers ready. If conditions allow, then we’ll place swimmers in the water for the adventure of a lifetime!

Please note that this tour is subject to weather conditions; if the weather is not appropriate for the tour we will inform you in the morning of the Tour and postpone it to the next day.

INCLUDED Transport Snorkeling Gear

Summer season (1 April - 31 October) is great for whale watching, as the wildlife in the bay is at it's highest peak! This is the time when the Minke whales are at their most abundant, along with White-beaked dolphins, Harbour porpoises and the occasional Humpback whales, giving us the chance to enjoy and understand them in their natural environment. Winter season (1 November - 31 March) is a whole other experience and adventure compared to our summer tours. Each year continues to surprise us with the wildlife it offers. The winter low lying sun is also something not to be missed, as it casts a warm glow over the white-capped mountains surrounding the bay and to breathe in the winter's fresh and crisp air is just incredible.

The most common cetacean in the area are the Minke whales, White-beaked dolphins and Harbour porpoises. Occasionally we spot other species including Humpback whales, Killer whales/Orcas, Fin whales and Blue whales to name but a few.

The weather can change quite frequently in Iceland and therefore we reserve the right to alter routes and itineraries by sailing from other harbours in the nearby area where the weather or sightings are more favourable each time, which could result in a slightly longer tour. Please consult with our ticket sales staff if you are on a tight schedule.

Please be aware that the tours are run in wild nature and we can never guarantee sightings on a particular tour. The estimated duration of tours are standard times and can change according to conditions at sea. Although our success rate is high, the cetacean abundance is unpredictable and varies with the food availability of our shores.

Café on board the boats.
Warm overalls/raincoats can be provided free of charge.
