This excursion is for those who, because of day-to-day stress, no longer have the patience to wait, to listen, for those who are no longer used to closely observing their surroundings.
Walking in Lofoten Islands is incredible, the scenery change in front of your eyes, and surprise you. The proposed hike is suitable for everyone, and isn’t overly difficult.... more

Going on foot isn’t monotonous or boring. It will help you synchronise with nature and with yourself.
With every footstep, the panorama will transform in front of you, and you will be constantly amazed by the variation.

The proposed hike is suitable for everyone, and isn’t overly difficult.

We have three versions of this trip

Very easy
A very simple excursion which we like to define as a beautiful walk immersed in the nature surrounding Svolvær. A soothing walk to enjoy the silence, while admiring extraordinary scenery and landscapes.
The walk lasts approximately 2 hours

Moderately easy
The second option is slightly more demanding. We will walk along a path which hugs a stunning mountain lake, and passes through green fir tree forests.
The walk lasts approximately 3 hours.

Medium/high difficulty
We travel to the western coast or we walk through high peaks and follow a path which has the ocean on one side and the imposing mountains on the other. Departure from Svolvær. The path we have chosen is about one hour by car from Svolvær.
The walk lasts approximately 5 hour, transport included.

Included:
An experienced guide will accompany you during the tour.
We will offer you energetic snacks during the excursion.

Slogen is narrow and steep and are one of this regions most famous summits together with Skåla. When you reach the summit you understand why!
«One of Norway’s finest summits for hiking – UTE summer issue 2012» We can hike Slogen from either Stranda or Øye, we decide which place to start from based on what suits you best.... more

This is a fairly demanding trip and you should have all day to get up. So if you want to go this route, it helps if you have done some hiking earlier.
If we start from Stranda, we are following a trail into Liadalen. After a few hours we’ll see Patchellhytta and Slogen get up in front of us. It is only when we come to the foot of Slogen as the steep climb begins. Here we follow the two distinct “camel humps” before we take up the last hill.

The view from the top of Slogen into Hjørundfjorden magic, but we’ll take it easy on the top because it,s narrow up there.

This is one of our absolute favorite mountains in the area around Hjørundfjorden due to several reasons. One of them is for sure the view from the top, you see all the way in to the ... moreend of Hjørundfjorden in one direction and out to Ålesund in the other. It´s also one of the summits in the area that have the best fjord panorama for sure.
We start our day in the small village Urke in the shoreline of Norangsfjorden, from where we are able to work our way up to the summit and get better, and better views during the day. ... moreThe last part up to the top where earlier a bit sketchy with a lot of loose rocks, but last year a couple of sherpas from Nepal built a nice stairway with the existing rocks.

This is one of our favourite hikes in the region and the hike that gives you the most spectacular fjord view in the region.

The hike to the top will take about 4 hours

Want to join us for a tour to Svartisen glacier in Northern Norway? Bodø is your starting point for a day trip to Svartisen. An adventure for those who want to get close to the glacier, ... moretouch it and walk on it. No experience is necessary for a guided glacier trip to Svartisen.
Equipped with rope, ice pick and crampons, you can experience first-hand the magical world of the glacial ice of Svartisen. This is the adventure of choice if you won`t settle for ... morejust looking at Svartisen glacier, but feel compelled to touch it and walk on it as well. A trip to Svartisen is an adventure suited for everyone, provided they are accompanied by one of our experienced guides. Peer into deep crevasses, see hues of blue unlike any before. Try your luck at ice climbing. We can even bring back ice for our late-night cocktails.

All you need is a sense of adventure, some suggested personal clothing, light hiking boots and snacks. We provide expert guides and all your gear to safely explore the Svartisen glacier.

About the glacier of Svartisen
The Svartisen glacier is the second largest in Norway covering 375 km2 and it´s the largest ice covered area of northern Norway. Svartisen is at the latitude of the Arctic Circle. The West Svartisen ice cap has an area of about 220 km2, whilst the East Svartisen ice cap covers about 147 km2. The two ice caps of Svartisen, which are separated by a deep valley, Vesterdalen-Glomdalen, supply sixty outlet glaciers.

More than half of the glaciers end between 1000 metres and 700 metres above sea level, but most of the larger ones descend into the adjacent valleys and fjords. The ice caps themselves, which form the accumulation zones of the glaciers, are around 1500 metres above sea level. One magnificent glacier arm of Svartisen, Engenbreen, ends about 200 metres above sea level. The Engenbreen glacier lies an easy 2 hour ride from Bodø.

Grading
Moderate fitness and agility is required. Involves some steady, well-graded uphill walking for 1 h to reach the glacier. The degree of difficulty and the precise route is carefully chosen to fulfill the desires and physique of the group. Recommended minimum age for children is 10 years.

Group Size
Maximum size of a group for a guided glacier trip to Svartisen is about 40. Large groups will be divided into smaller groups each with their own guide. Most of our trips to the glacier are smaller groups, you will never experience Svartisen to be crowded with people.

Duration
For a day-trip from Bodø to Svartisen and back we will need about 12 hours. The tour on the ice lasts app. 3 – 5 hours.

Season
May - Sept.

Weather Cancellation Policy
This trip is not dependent on weather conditions. A guided glacier hike at Svartisen could be done even in rainy weather if you are well dressed.

Where and when do we meet?
Meeting point is the pier at Holandsvika (see map above) by the Coastal Highway, FV 17. Holandsvika is located 24 km south of Glomfjord (if you start in Bodø) and 11 km from Halsa (if you came from south).

Time for meeting is 11.00 am unless something else has been agreed.

How to get to Svartisen glacier?
Transportation is not included in the price, but we will be glad to help you plan it. A rental car is reccomended.

It the guide starts in Bodø, you might be able to join him/her there. We will know this a couple of days ahead.

Getting to the glacier by bus from Bodø to Holand might be an option. Check the timetable for bus Bodø – Halsa and make sure to exit the bus at Holandsvika.

What do I need to bring?
Bring your own hiking boots and personal clothing: 3 – 4 layers of warm upper body clothing, gloves, a varm cap. A rain coat might come in handy. Jeans are not recommended on wet days as they become cold and uncomfortable.

Sunglasses and sun protection is important even if cloudy. A day pack is useful and water and snacks are nice to have. Be sure to bring your camera!

What makes this glacier so special for this kind of activity?
The easily accessible face is not abrupt, and the frontal ice formations have many safe routes through spectacular views of crevasses, caves and surface ponds.
