Many first ascents in the area are made by famous British mountaineers like Wiliam Cecil Slingsby and Charles Watson Patchell around 1900. They came back year after year and has set a clear mark on the area. Patchell had also set up Patchell-hut at the foot of Slogen and Slingsby got his own climbing route(Slingsby-route) up from Villa Norangdal to the top of Kvitegga.

Today the are has impact in the international advertising and skifilms, the last few years among others we have had Volvo cars, Peak Performance, Universal Pictures, Field Productions, Solomon Freeski tv, and Warren Miller Entertainment to experience the magic.

Slogen is narrow and steep and are one of this regions most famous summits together with Skåla. When you reach the summit you understand why!
«One of Norway’s finest summits for hiking – UTE summer issue 2012» We can hike Slogen from either Stranda or Øye, we decide which place to start from based on what suits you best.... more

This is a fairly demanding trip and you should have all day to get up. So if you want to go this route, it helps if you have done some hiking earlier.
If we start from Stranda, we are following a trail into Liadalen. After a few hours we’ll see Patchellhytta and Slogen get up in front of us. It is only when we come to the foot of Slogen as the steep climb begins. Here we follow the two distinct “camel humps” before we take up the last hill.

The view from the top of Slogen into Hjørundfjorden magic, but we’ll take it easy on the top because it,s narrow up there.

This is one of our absolute favorite mountains in the area around Hjørundfjorden due to several reasons. One of them is for sure the view from the top, you see all the way in to the ... moreend of Hjørundfjorden in one direction and out to Ålesund in the other. It´s also one of the summits in the area that have the best fjord panorama for sure.
We start our day in the small village Urke in the shoreline of Norangsfjorden, from where we are able to work our way up to the summit and get better, and better views during the day. ... moreThe last part up to the top where earlier a bit sketchy with a lot of loose rocks, but last year a couple of sherpas from Nepal built a nice stairway with the existing rocks.

This is one of our favourite hikes in the region and the hike that gives you the most spectacular fjord view in the region.

The hike to the top will take about 4 hours

Come rafting with us for a refreshing and action-packed outdoor experience in an incredible setting. Rafting in Valldal is perfect for most visitors, beginners and experienced rafters ... morealike.

The exciting rapids are spread out along the entire length of the 11km long Valldøla river.
Before the trip All of our rafting trips start at our office in the heart of Valldal village. We provide each guest with important rafting equipment: Wetsuits, rafting shoes, helmets, ... moreand life jackets. Once everyone is wearing their equipment and ready to go we take a bus to Hoel Bridge, where the trip begins. The trip leader will give a thorough safety briefing, teaching you everything you need to know in order to be safe on the river. Afterwards, the guides will take guests to their boats and teach them how to properly sit and paddle to make the trip as fun as possible! At this point we are ready to go, and after a quick practice paddle on the river we set off down stream!

On the river
The trip starts with exciting rapids and waves through on the first section of the Valldøla. As the river calms we take our first break on the riverbanks. Here, all guests get the opportunity to swim a fun river rapid. It is a surprising and rewarding experience to feel the power of the river as you safely float through the waves. Once everyone has cooled off enough swimming in the river we continue downstream through high mountains and endless fields of strawberries.

As paddle past the halfway point we pull out and take a longer stop along the river. We light a fire, warm water, and serve Norwegian pancakes with local strawberries and cream. It is a fantastic break and a great way to refuel before setting out on the final, and swiftest section of the river. The grade steepens and rapids increase in both number and size. After 11km of beautiful scenery, adventure and excitement the rafts float quietly out into Norddalsfjord through the Valldal village, where we head for shore. Back at the office we dry off, warm up and reminisce about the wonderful rafting trip.

Things to bring
It’s smart to bring warm, wool long underwear to wear under your wetsuit for warmth and comfort on cooler days. Don’t forget a warm change of clothes for after the trip.

Equipment
