Join us for an unforgettable walk on one of the spectacular glaciers of Jotunheimen!
A day at the blue ice walking on a glacier will be a memory of a lifetime. Glacier hiking in Jotunheimen don´t have to be a tiring trip. Here we can plan your trip according to your ... moreskill level. The whole point of glacier blue ice is to have an experience, and not necessarily to get as far as possible in the shortest possible time. If you want to get close to the blue ice, we arrange tours primarily on Bøverbreen which is a nice glacier arm of Smørstabbreen located right in the heart of Jotunheimen. But we can also take on guiding other glacier arms. Glacier hikes is for us to enjoy ourselves, looking at the cracks, caves and towers of ice. And some wants to crawl through ice tunnels, being let down in a crack or climb with ice axes up a wall of ice.
Lom and Jotunheimen has many glaciers, and a glacier in Jotunheimen can be so many things. We have flat glaciers with small cracks and steep glaciers with many cracks and towers.
A glacier walki from Krossbu or Sognefjellhytta takes about 5-6 hours. Of this we use about an hour to the glacier, and one hour back to the road.
We have set up tours on Wednesdays and Saturdays from late June to mid-August.
Please contact us or book on online if you think this sounds interesting. If Wednesday and Saturday is not suitable for you, please contact us and we’ll see what we can do.

About the glacier of Svartisen
The Svartisen glacier is the second largest in Norway covering 375 km2 and it´s the largest ice covered area of northern Norway. Svartisen is at the latitude of the Arctic Circle. The West Svartisen ice cap has an area of about 220 km2, whilst the East Svartisen ice cap covers about 147 km2. The two ice caps of Svartisen, which are separated by a deep valley, Vesterdalen-Glomdalen, supply sixty outlet glaciers.
More than half of the glaciers end between 1000 metres and 700 metres above sea level, but most of the larger ones descend into the adjacent valleys and fjords. The ice caps themselves, which form the accumulation zones of the glaciers, are around 1500 metres above sea level. One magnificent glacier arm of Svartisen, Engenbreen, ends about 200 metres above sea level. The Engenbreen glacier lies an easy 2 hour ride from Bodø.
Moderate fitness and agility is required. Involves some steady, well-graded uphill walking for 1 h to reach the glacier. The degree of difficulty and the precise route is carefully chosen to fulfill the desires and physique of the group. Recommended minimum age for children is 10 years.
